For our stay in Boulder I opted out of booking a traditional hotel because I wanted us to stay in town. In my research I found a few hotels, but this one caught my eye because it was different from any hotel experience we had so far. The Foot of the Mountain Motel was in a desirable location, budget friendly and the name could not be more fitting.
This historic motel has been here for over 80 years, but don’t let that worry you. This property has done a great job renovating over time while still keeping it’s charm. Back when we visited we booked cabin # 17, the Bunkhouse Queen, which was 1 queen/1 double bedroom. I was already in love with the traditional key they gave us at check in and once we got in the room I was pleased. In short the rooms were cozy and filled with character, they had a cabin feel, what with having knotty pine panelling inside and pine logs on the exterior. There were nice vintage touches like the fridge and bathroom. And just to speak on the bathroom, that shower head had great water pressure and a perfect little window with a view of Flagstaff Mountain.
We had a quick and easy check in, viewed the room and headed over to the small playground across the way which also features a walking trail and creek. That was great for us since we had our daughter with us on this trip. My parents, who also joined us, were able to take her over while Andrew and I ventured out to Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park later that day.
Our trip was back in 2016 and at that time the rooms did not include AC, but did offer a fan which was great for the evening. However, 2018 holds new additions and upgrades to the rooms and property over all. Air-conditioning is being added to every room for those of you who might’ve found that to be a deal breaker. In the entertainment department, new HD TVs with more selections and premium movies will be available and upgraded internet speeds.
A great perk when traveling is when your accommodations offer free breakfast. Here you can choose items from their free continental breakfast and enjoy a coffee in their communal seating area. The cutest arrangement of pumpkins and vintage bathtub planter was the centerpiece of it. We spent our morning there while we watched our daughter rearrange the pumpkins over and over again.
It really was an ideal place to stay in order to enjoy the outdoors and still be close to popular areas like Pearl Street Mall.
